Math Anxiety - "Repost"

Are you helping your child with math homework?

"Researchers tracked more than 400, 1st and 2nd grade students whose parents provided different levels of help with their homework. They also assessed both parents' and kids' attitudes toward math at the beginning and end of the school year.

Students whose parents reported high math anxiety made significantly less progress in math over the course of a year, and they were more likely to become anxious themselves—but only if their anxious parents sweated through helping them with homework."

Association of EDUCATIONAL THERAPISTS 36th Annual Conference
Bridging Social Neuroscience and Learning
October 24-26, 2014

Picture
We are fresh back from the Association for Educational Therapists Conference. It was so inspiring to know there are people at all levels making a profound difference in education and very often literally one child at a time. The AET Conference brought together a consortium of neuroscientists, neuropsychologists, therapists, university professors, administrators, social workers, teachers, and parents. This year's theme for the 36th Annual Conference was "Bridging Social Neuroscience and Learning". The theme alone shows these brilliant people are on the pioneering edge of educational development. They are taking on diagnosing the specific needs of every learner, developing best practices based on the latest brain science, and fine tuning those practices with learners that benefit most from this giant collaborative endeavor.
These trailblazers of educational neuroscience, create developmental tools and practices that make learning accessible to the disabled and uncover ways to leverage the mechanisms of the brain as sources of efficiency in learning. As the educational therapy community finds solutions for the diagnosed, we see that all learners benefit from these findings.

In our talks with the AET community it's easy to see how AlgebraCARDS was designed to fit the needs of every learner. A multisensory learning program that uses color to chunk information, connect themes, focus tracking skills, and highlight main ideas. A podcast for each card builds on student perseverance, close reading strategies, and deeper learning.

We are thankful to the AET for giving us the opportunity to be a part of their community, and we look forward to continue contributing to them in the years to come.
